With only three days remaining until the opening whistle of the international football tournament, the Mexican National Team completed its final official institutional protocol ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo directed the traditional flag-bearing ceremony this Monday, June 8, at the Federation’s High Performance Center (CAR). The high-profile institutional event operated under tight security guidelines enforced by the Mexican Army and National Guard, bringing together the highest sporting executives of the domestic game.
The administrative ceremony, lasting roughly ten minutes on a presentation platform constructed behind the main training pitches, featured the 26 selected athletes chosen by head coach Javier Aguirre. Clad in formal suits and ties, the national delegation received the presidential decree. Government authorities formally selected historic veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa—scheduled to register a landmark appearance in global tournaments—as the official flag bearer for the delegation. With strict constitutional solemnity, President Sheinbaum initiated the oath of honor to the squad: "I entrust to your patriotism this flag which symbolizes our independence, honor, institutions, our people, and the integrity of our territory. Do you promise to honor it and defend it with loyalty and constancy?" Sheinbaum stated, receiving a unified "Yes, I promise" from the assembled squad.
The executive speech carried heavy symbolic significance for the young developmental players on the roster, such as midfielders Gilberto Mora, Obed Vargas, and Brian Gutierrez, who stood positioned along the primary tier of the stage. The executive committee also included Ivar Sisniega (FMF Executive President), Duilio Davino (Director of Men's National Teams), and Mikel Arriola (FMF Commissioner) supporting Aguirre’s technical staff. With the national standard officially deployed, the team returned to internal preparation routines during their secondary open media training session. The Mexican squad is finalizing their tactical patterns before contesting the opening match of the global tournament this Thursday, June 11, at 1:00 PM local time against South Africa. The match will take place at the Estadio Ciudad de México, launching the tournament co-hosted alongside the United States and Canada.
