The most scrutinized managerial position in Mexican football has found its new leader. Just four days after parting ways with the historic Brazilian tactician Andre Jardine, Club America officially confirmed on Sunday, June 7, the appointment of Uruguayan manager Guillermo Almada to spearhead the first team's sports project ahead of the Liga MX Apertura 2026 tournament. The strategic acquisition underlines management's desire to install an intense, proven entity to govern a locker room explicitly tailored to continuous domestic and international triumphs.

The Mexico City giants unveiled the 57-year-old manager across their official media platforms via an institutional welcome presentation, solidifying a two-year contract that contains an optional performance-based third-season extension. "Club America announces the incorporation of Guillermo Almada as Head Coach of the Aguilas, who will present himself in the coming days at the Nido de Coapa," the club's administrative statement outlined, emphasizing the standard expectation to continuously grow the trophy collection of the region's most successful club. The first-team roster will report to the training facilities starting Monday to undergo standard internal medical and physical evaluations, while the tactical staff is scheduled to direct pre-season pitch operations between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The administrative burden resting upon Almada's shoulders is substantial from his introductory session. The veteran manager takes over a club transitioning away from an unforgettable golden era under Jardine, who departed Coapa after claiming a historic domestic three-peat (tricampeonato). Within America’s operational ecosystem, competitive parity is never sufficient; the club exists under a perpetual mandate to secure silverware. To meet these demands, Almada brings an esteemed operational resume within the country, having formerly engineered highly competitive projects at Santos Laguna and Pachuca, a club he guided to a Liga MX Apertura 2022 title alongside a Concacaf Champions Cup crown in 2024.

However, the Uruguayan tactician enters this prestigious role determined to distance himself from a difficult recent stint in European football. During his recent campaign in Spain, Almada briefly commanded Real Valladolid in the second division, narrowly avoiding relegation territory. He later assumed structural control of Real Oviedo, where a difficult run culminated in a last-place finish and automatic relegation from LaLiga. Returning to Mexico, Almada will seek to implement his signature tactical philosophy characterized by relentless pressing, high-tempo transitions, and youth integration, intending to prove his blueprint remains capable of anchoring a giant like America at the apex of continental football.
