Victor Wembanyama Leads Spurs Over Timberwolves Game 5 Western Conference Semifinals 2026

Revenge is a dish best served on the hardwood. After suffering the first ejection of his professional career in Game 4, Victor Wembanyama returned to the Frost Bank Center with a singular purpose: absolute dominance.

The French phenom racked up 27 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocks to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a commanding 126-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, securing a pivotal 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Wembanyama set the tone from the opening tip, exploding for 16 points in the first six minutes of play. His aggressive approach forced Minnesota into early foul trouble and silenced the defensive presence of Rudy Gobert. Although the Timberwolves managed a desperate 14-2 run to tie the game early in the third quarter, San Antonio’s depth proved too much to handle. Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson sparked a decisive response, finishing with 21 points and a momentum-shifting block on Gobert that ignited the home crowd.

With this performance, Wembanyama joins Magic Johnson and Luka Doncic as the only players in NBA history to record a 25-15-5 playoff game at his age. Anthony Edwards struggled to find his rhythm under the relentless defensive pressure of De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, finishing with 20 points as the Timberwolves fell behind by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter.

The Spurs are now just one win away from a Western Conference Finals matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Game 6 is set for Friday in Minneapolis, where San Antonio will look to close out the series and cement Wembanyama’s status as the new face of postseason greatness.
