The San Antonio Spurs delivered a crushing 139-109 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 6 on Friday night, eliminating Minnesota from the playoffs and advancing to the Western Conference Finals.
For the Timberwolves, the defeat extended a troubling trend. It marked the third consecutive season in which Minnesota’s playoff run ended in a lopsided elimination-game loss.
San Antonio took control almost immediately. The Spurs capitalized on Minnesota’s defensive breakdowns and offensive inconsistency, building a massive early lead that reached 29 points in the second quarter.
Minnesota briefly responded with a strong run before halftime, cutting the deficit to 13 points, but the momentum quickly disappeared after the break as San Antonio regained full control of the game.
Stephon Castle starred for the Spurs with 32 points and 11 rebounds, while Victor Wembanyama added 19 points and once again transformed the game defensively with his rim protection and versatility.
Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 24 points, though he struggled with efficiency throughout the night. Rudy Gobert failed to score, missing all four of his field-goal attempts, while Julius Randle finished with just three points in another disappointing postseason performance.
The series highlighted Minnesota’s inability to consistently adjust offensively against Wembanyama and exposed broader structural issues within the roster.
San Antonio now advances to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves head into a critical offseason filled with uncertainty regarding the future construction of the roster around Anthony Edwards.
