South Africa wrapped up its World Cup preparations with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Nicaragua in Johannesburg, leaving questions unanswered ahead of its opening match against Mexico.
Head coach Hugo Broos watched his side dominate possession and territory throughout the match, but South Africa once again struggled to convert chances into goals.
The best opportunity came late in the first half when Lyle Foster stepped up to take a penalty after a foul on Kamogelo Sebelebele. Foster's effort struck the post, allowing Nicaragua to escape with a clean sheet.
Goalkeeper Adonis Pineda played a crucial role for Nicaragua, producing several key saves to frustrate the hosts and preserve the draw.
Despite controlling possession and producing the majority of the attacking play, South Africa failed to find a breakthrough. The result extends the Bafana Bafana's winless streak to four matches heading into the tournament.
South Africa will open its World Cup campaign against Mexico on June 11 at the historic Estadio Azteca before facing Czech Republic and South Korea in Group A.
While the performance showed encouraging control of possession, concerns remain about the team's ability to convert chances when it matters most.
