The featherweight contest, originally scheduled for five rounds, concluded before fans could even settle into their seats. Immediately following the opening bell, the 39-year-old Rousey closed the distance aggressively and executed a swift takedown. While Carano attempted to defend herself from the bottom, she left her arm exposed during the transition. The judoka capitalized instantly, locking in the submission and forcing an immediate tap out. With this victory, Rousey broke a nine-and-a-half-year absence from the sport (following consecutive losses to Holly Holm in 2015 and Amanda Nunes in 2016), closing her professional career on her own terms.
Meanwhile, 44-year-old Gina Carano returned to the cage after a prolonged 17-year hiatus, with her last professional fight dating back to 2009 against Cyborg. Despite the rapid defeat, Carano remained cheerful, revealing that she lost 100 pounds during a training camp that provided her with a renewed sense of purpose and helped her overcome recent health issues. Following the stoppage, both fighters shared an emotional embrace inside the cage, where Rousey praised Carano as her ultimate hero and the woman who changed her world.
The event marked a major commercial milestone as the first-ever live MMA card broadcasted directly on Netflix. Promoter and influencer Jake Paul, alongside business partner Nakisa Bridarian, celebrated the showcase and sent a direct warning to UFC President Dana White, promising that MVP will continue to deliver high-profile combat sports events driven by women's talent.
