Real Madrid earned a 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the result did little to calm the growing frustration surrounding the club after a trophyless campaign.
Goals from academy product Gonzalo García and midfielder Jude Bellingham secured the win for Álvaro Arbeloa’s side, though the mood inside the stadium quickly became the defining story of the night.
Supporters voiced their anger from the opening minutes. Vinicius Junior was heavily booed during the pre-match introductions, while Kylian Mbappé received a particularly hostile reception when he entered the pitch in the second half. Protest banners directed at club president Florentino Pérez were also displayed before security staff removed them from the stands.
Madrid controlled possession for long stretches but again struggled to convert dominance into clear attacking rhythm. Despite already being relegated, Oviedo remained competitive and created several dangerous moments of their own.
As halftime approached and tension inside the Bernabéu continued to rise, Gonzalo García broke the deadlock in the 44th minute with a composed finish from outside the area.
Oviedo threatened again after the break through Alberto Reina and Vidal, but Thibaut Courtois responded with key interventions to preserve Madrid’s advantage.
One of the night’s emotional highlights came when veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla entered the match. The Bernabéu stood and applauded the former Spain international in a rare moment of unity amid the frustration surrounding the home side.
Mbappé later entered the match to loud whistles from sections of the crowd. The French forward, recently back from injury, struggled to make a major impact despite showing flashes of danger in transition.
Bellingham eventually sealed the result in the 80th minute with a low left-footed finish inside the box. Still, even the final whistle failed to erase the tension. Madrid collected the three points, but the disconnect between the team, the board and the supporters was impossible to ignore.
