Monterrey claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Club América in the first leg of the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2026 final at Estadio BBVA, taking a slim advantage into Sunday’s decisive second leg in Mexico City.

Alice Soto scored the only goal of the night in a tightly contested match between two of the league’s strongest teams, renewing a rivalry that already produced one of the most dramatic finals in recent Liga MX Femenil history.

América started brightly despite playing away from home. Ángel Villacampa’s side controlled possession early and created dangerous attacking sequences through Scarlett Camberos, Geyse Da Silva and Gabriela García, but failed to beat goalkeeper Paola Manrique.

Monterrey gradually settled into the game and capitalized on a defensive mistake in the 25th minute. Soto received a through ball inside the area and calmly finished past Sandra Paños to put the home side ahead.

The goal shifted momentum toward Rayadas, who began to find more space in transition and looked increasingly dangerous before halftime. Jermaine Seoposenwe missed a key opportunity to extend the lead shortly before the break.

Monterrey thought they had doubled the advantage early in the second half when Christina Burkenroad found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

América pushed forward during the closing stages and nearly found an equalizer through Isadora Haas, whose effort drifted narrowly wide.

Tensions boiled over late in the match after Scarlett Camberos and Samantha Simental became involved in a confrontation near the touchline, leading to yellow cards for both players.

The result leaves the final finely balanced heading into the second leg, where América will attempt to overturn the deficit at home while Monterrey chase a fifth Liga MX Femenil title.
