Returning to the red clay of Paris where he suffered a devastating five-set heartbreak in last year's final, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner initiated his 2026 French Open campaign with a business-like 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 victory over local wild card Clément Tabur. 

The comprehensive night-session win extended Sinner's active winning streak to an astonishing 30 matches, reinforcing his position as the absolute tournament favorite in the absence of injured reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner’s mechanical precision from the baseline left Tabur with minimal operational room during the first two sets. The Italian's heavy groundstrokes constantly pushed the world No. 171 outside the singles lines, allowing Sinner to dictate service returns with total authority. 

However, the final games of the third set offered a brief moment of drama. Serving at 5-4 after failing to convert three match points on Tabur's service game, Sinner required a medical timeout to treat a right foot blister. The structural issue proved minor, as the top seed promptly held serve in the ensuing game to wrap up the match in under two hours.

The historical stakes weighing on Sinner's shoulders remain significant. Having already captured the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open titles throughout his young career, a victory on the Parisian clay would make him the first Italian male singles champion here since Adriano Panatta in 1976. "First rounds are never simple, especially against a home player under the lights," Sinner noted during his on-court interview. 

With his baseline depth completely firing and his physical condition stabilized by the medical staff, Sinner heads into the second round with the clinical momentum necessary to claim the final major piece missing from his trophy cabinet.
