Arnold Allen reminded the featherweight division why he remains one of the most dangerous technical fighters in the UFC.

The British contender defeated Melquizael Costa by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Vegas 117 on Saturday night in Las Vegas, earning scorecards of 50-45, 50-45 and 49-46 after a composed and tactically disciplined performance.

Allen established control early in the fight by taking the center of the octagon and landing a powerful left hand that visibly hurt Costa in the opening round.

From that moment on, the fight largely unfolded on Allen’s terms.

Costa entered the bout carrying momentum as one of the division’s emerging names thanks to his aggressive pressure and high-volume offense. But Allen neutralized much of that style with sharp counterstriking, disciplined footwork and well-timed grappling exchanges.

The British fighter consistently found success with his straight left hand, forcing Costa to retreat and reset throughout the fight.

Whenever the Brazilian attempted to increase the pace, Allen responded calmly with cleaner combinations or clinch control to slow the exchanges down.

Allen also mixed in takedowns effectively, especially during the middle rounds, using top control and positional pressure to wear Costa down physically while controlling the tempo of the fight.

Costa showed toughness and had moments of offensive urgency late in the contest, but he never fully disrupted Allen’s structure or momentum.

The victory carries major significance for Allen, who entered the fight coming off difficult losses against elite featherweights including Max Holloway, Movsar Evloev and Jean Silva.

More importantly, the win reestablishes Allen as a serious presence inside the UFC featherweight rankings and keeps him firmly in the mix for future high-profile matchups.

For Costa, the defeat slows the momentum of his recent rise, though the Brazilian still showed resilience and flashes of promise against a far more experienced opponent.

At UFC Vegas 117, Arnold Allen didn’t just win a fight — he reasserted himself in the featherweight conversation.
