Mexican motorsport has etched another golden chapter inside the crown jewel of racing. This Saturday afternoon, around the legendary street layout of Monte Carlo, rookie standout Noel León conquered the FIA Formula 2 Sprint race from lights to flag, securing the headline performance of the fourth round of the 2026 season. The Campos Racing and Escudería Telmex Telcel driver assembled a flawless operational program, clocking a total time of 43:06.407 while dealing with the relentless proximity of the steel barriers and pressure from behind.

Launching from the premier slot on the grid in Monaco guarantees tactical leverage, but protecting that advantage demands absolute mechanical maturity. As the starting lights extinguished, León executed a clinical launch, maintaining the lead into the heavy braking zone of Saint Devote. From that moment forward, the Monterrey native managed his tire degradation profiles efficiently, constructing a comfortable three-second cushion over secondary pursuers Roman Bilinski and Gabriele Minì, who finalized the podium positions on the French Riviera.

The 30-lap contest developed into a high-attrition exercise with every passing lap. Around a layout where overtaking maneuvers are borderline impossible and a marginal miscalculation turns into a definitive season-ending shunt into the armco, León showcased immense poise. The performance secures his second consecutive victory in the Formula 1 feeder series' Sprint format, following his maiden classification triumph last month in Canada.

This achievement carries a monumental historical weight for Mexican sports. It marks only the third instance where the Mexican National Anthem has echoed through the streets of the Principality of Monaco under an official FIA-sanctioned event. The pioneer to achieve this feat in the junior category (then classified as the GP2 Series) was current F1 veteran Sergio 'Checo' Pérez during his dominant 2010 campaign—a milestone Pérez would duplicate twelve years later in 2022 by winning the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing. Today, Noel León integrates into that elite circle of Monte Carlo winners.

The remaining contingent representing the Latin American roster of Escudería Telmex Telcel also delivered solid operational depth in Monaco. Paraguay’s Joshua Dürksen assembled an impressive drive to cross the line in fourth place, just missing the podium, while Brazil’s Rafael Câmara finalized his running in eighth position. Further down the classification order, Sebastián Montoya concluded his race in 13th, followed by Rafael Villagómez in 16th and Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. wrapping up the field in 17th.

With this statistical breakthrough, and with only four rounds completed out of the 14 scheduled on the 2026 calendar, Noel León officially elevates to second place in the FIA Formula 2 Drivers' Championship standings. The competitive agenda for the young Mexican continues immediately, as he is scheduled to start Sunday's prestigious Feature Race from the upper ranks, looking to maximize his scoring haul under the direct observation of the Formula 1 paddock hierarchy.
