Canada defeats Uzbekistan 2-0 in pre-World Cup international friendly

The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has entered its definitive and most fragile phase, with international managers looking to build tactical chemistry while praying to avoid structural injuries. Uzbekistan's manager, Italian legend Fabio Cannavaro, established a rigid defensive structure anchored by a three-man backline led by Abdukodir Khusanov to absorb Canadian counterattacks. The tactical deadlock was broken in the second half through decisive adjustments implemented by Canada’s manager Jesse Marsch. In the 58th minute, veteran midfielder Jonathan Osorio celebrated his 90th international cap by controling an accurate pass from Tani Oluwaseyi and unleashing a powerful strike past Uzbek goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov to claim the 1-0 cushion, registering his 10th international goal.

Uzbekistan attempted to advance their lines to salvage an equalizer, but the North American backline sustained absolute tactical discipline, with goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair handling the second half flawlessly following a planned tactical rotation with Maxime Crepeau. In stoppage time (93rd minute), Jayden Nelson capitalized on a secondary assist from Oluwaseyi to slide home a clinical finish, sealing the definitive 2-0 margin. Canada will wrap up camp ahead of their Group B tournament opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto, while Uzbekistan travels to Mexico City to analyze their squad health before an absolute historic World Cup debut against Colombia on June 17 in Group K.
