The structural blueprint for the United States Men’s National Team's home World Cup campaign is officially set. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino finalized his 26-man roster in New York, selecting a group focused heavily on multi-positional versatility and tactical adaptability to navigate a demanding Group D featuring Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey.

The biggest roster storyline revolved around the final attacking slot. Club América winger Alejandro Zendejas completed a dramatic return to the national team lineup, earning selection despite missing the last three international windows. Zendejas' inclusion came at the expense of central midfielder Tanner Tessmann, a strategic pivot by Pochettino to retain an explicit wide-profile asset who can transition into an interior playmaker. Zendejas brings a strong technical season from Liga MX, where he delivered 12 goals and 7 assists over 33 appearances.

Pochettino’s roster construction highlights a stark divide between domestic defensive security and European-based attacking power. The coaching staff committed to Major League Soccer for internal goalkeeping stability, naming Matt Freese, Matt Turner, and Chris Brady as the three shot-blockers.

Conversely, the midfield and attacking lines rely heavily on proven European experience. Star wing Christian Pulisic (AC Milan) and box-to-box engine Weston McKennie (Juventus) lead a core group of 13 veterans returning from the Qatar 2022 cycle, providing critical tournament experience to offset the late injury losses of midfielder Johnny Cardoso and forward Patrick Agyemang.

The USMNT will test their tactical shapes in upcoming warm-up friendlies against Senegal and Germany before kicking off their group stage opener on June 12 at the SoFi Stadium.
