The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve hosted a relentless race of attrition that ultimately crowned the sport's newest megastar once again. Nineteen-year-old Italian prodigy Andrea Kimi Antonelli conquered a chaotic 2026 Canadian Grand Prix, capturing his fourth consecutive victory of the season (following wins in China, Japan, and Miami) and cementing his name in the golden pages of motorsport history as the only driver to secure his first four Formula 1 victories in consecutive fashion.

The afternoon started with massive strategic tension as seven drivers gambled on intermediate tires due to a pre-race rain threat, including both McLaren and Cadillac entries. Lando Norris briefly seized the lead following an aggressive launch, but the dry track conditions quickly punished the papaya squad's strategy, turning the opening stages into a fierce Mercedes civil war. Antonelli and teammate George Russell engaged in a wheel-to-wheel showcase that pushed their W17 chassis to the absolute limit, trading the lead and even making light contact on lap 25, which saw the Italian forced to return the position for gaining an off-track advantage.

The breaking point of the Silver Arrows' internal battle arrived suddenly on lap 30. Russell's power unit suffered a catastrophic drop in performance, forcing a heartbreaking retirement for the Briton, who had conquered Saturday's Sprint race. With clean air ahead, Antonelli expertly managed the gap to cross the line at 1:28:15.758, extending his championship lead to a staggering 43 points over his teammate.

For Latin American fans, the afternoon brought contrasting emotions. Mexican veteran Sergio 'Checo' Pérez suffered his first DNF of the 2026 season on lap 40 when his Cadillac's front-right suspension collapsed unexpectedly entering the pit lane, fracturing the wheel axle. Despite the sudden failure, Pérez managed to control the car safely. Meanwhile, Argentine standout Franco Colapinto delivered a modern masterclass for Alpine, navigating the chaos to cross the line in sixth place, securing the best result of his Formula 1 career to celebrate his 31st Grand Prix start.

The final fireworks were provided by the grid's world champions. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) revived their historic rivalry with an intense duel for second place. On lap 63, the seven-time world champion executed a clinical late-braking maneuver down the inside to snatch the position away from the Dutchman. Hamilton held firm in the closing laps to claim the runner-up spot, leaving Verstappen to secure a solid third place, marking his first podium appearance in a difficult season for Red Bull.
